Adelaide gutter cleaning is fragmented across small operators, vacuum specialists, gutter-guard sales businesses dressed up as cleaners, and pressure-cleaning multi-service operators. The website doesn't tell you which is which. Here's how to filter for the operators who do the job properly.
The 3 patterns to avoid
1. The spray-and-wave
Cleaner shows up for 20 minutes. He blasts water from a ladder. Debris ends up on the lawn or back in the gutter. Next storm you're overflowing again. The price tells you nothing - some spray-and-wave operators charge $300, some charge $150. The scope tells you.
2. On-arrival price hikes
Quoted $250 over the phone. Cleaner arrives, looks at the property, and the quote is now $450 with no negotiation. Common with one-truck operators who don't take detail at quoting. Get a written quote against photos before booking.
3. No insurance, no paperwork
Working at heights without public liability is a problem. If they fall on your property and they're uninsured, the claim lands on your home and contents insurance - which usually doesn't cover other people's injuries.
How to filter for the good operators
Check public liability insurance
Ask for the certificate. $10 million is the Adelaide minimum a homeowner should accept. $20 million is the commercial standard. The serious operators provide it without hesitation.
Ask about working-at-heights method
Vacuum, ladder + harness with anchor, or EWP. Not naked ladder work. SafeWork SA classes most ladder work above 2 metres as high-risk construction work requiring a Safe Work Method Statement.
Confirm debris removal
Bagged and removed from site - never dumped on the lawn or in the stormwater. This is the single biggest indicator of a serious operator vs a spray-and-wave.
Confirm downpipe flush in scope
Standard scope, not an optional extra. A blocked downpipe is the #1 cause of gutter overflow. A clean that doesn't flush downpipes isn't a complete clean.
Ask for photo evidence
Before and after photos of every gutter section and downpipe, texted or emailed. Standard with reputable operators. If they won't commit to it, walk away.
Confirm scope is itemised
Quote should break out: gutters cleaned, downpipes flushed, valleys cleaned, debris removed, photo report. Single-line “gutter clean $250” quotes are hard to compare.
The 3-quote rule
Every Adelaide forum and consumer body says the same: get 3 quotes. It catches the outliers and gives you genuine comparison. That's exactly what we do - tell us about your gutters and we'll match you with up to 3 vetted cleaners.
